a temporary change to the online store.
Posted on April 2, 2009
This last week I was first surprised to notice a huge number of downloads of our albums on our website, then disappointed to realize that none of them came with a donation, and then pissed off when I realized that there were over 700 of them in a three day period, all of the same file, none including a donation, and coming in bursts of 100 or so spaced about a minute apart.
Someone out there doesn’t like our music or our message and is trying to crash our servers.
It’s a classic denial of service attack, they flood our server with hundreds of requests to download the biggest files on the site, clogging up our bandwidth, and making it impossible for people who actually want to download to get the files.
Fortunately, there’s an easy fix – I just had to change it so instead of letting people name their own price each download costs $8, which was set as the default donation and is what most people paid anyway. You can still get the albums (Weapon of the Future, both my most recent solo albums and laura’s solo album) for free off jamendo, just hit the “more info” links under each albums description for the link or just go to jamendo.com and search for our name.
it’s a temporary fix and I plan to change it back once whatever idiot is doing this gets bored and goes on to bother someone else. I just figured I should explain the reasoning behind the change in case ya’l l were wondering,
